Recap of Week 9/9/19

We had a lovely week in Room 4! We started the week by going on a number hunt around the classroom and learning about the letter T. On Tuesday, we launched Writer's Workshop and talked about how we are all story tellers. Later in the week we learned letters B and F along with learning about how to use Chromebooks during math time. We finished the week with picture day and reading The Book With No Pictures. It was a great first full week!

Room 4 News and Annoucements

Hello Families!

I wanted to share with you a few things that are coming up the next couple of weeks!

Tonight, September 11th, is the Welcome Back to School BBQ. You should have received a note in your child's green folder. It is at Bayside Park in Colchester from 5:30-7:00. If it is raining, the rain location is at Colchester High School. This is not a mandatory event, but feel free to join us!

Friday, September 13th, is picture day. All students will be getting their picture taken. If you are interested in purchasing pictures, please fill out the Beltrami School Picture envelope that was in your child's green folder. It needs to be returned on Friday the latest.

I will remind you of our Early Release Day again when we get closer to it. On September 25th, we have our first Early Release Day. These happen every couple of months to allow professional development for teachers. Dismissal on Early Release Day is at 12:45. If your child will have a different plan than their typical Wednesday afternoon dismissal, you will need to send in a note. September 25th will also be the final day for the September Scholastic Book Order which can be done online (   Code: QL4N7) or through the handout that was sent in your child's green folder. Once again, this is optional, but a great way to get books in your child's hands!

Finally, on Friday September 27th, we will be going to Hacketts Apple Orchard. If you have not signed and returned the permission slip, please do so as soon as you can! This is a very fun field trip--especially when it is a lovely Fall day! Parents are welcome to join, as long as you have filled out the District Volunteer Form.

Thank you for raising wonderful kids! Have a great day!

Self Portraits and Math Stations

Today we worked really hard on making some self portraits after reading a great story called The Colors of Us by Karen Katz. Students practiced using scissors and glue sticks to create some amazing masterpieces. They will be hung up in our room all year long! You will be able to check them out in October when we have Open House.

We also learned about math stations and practiced rotating through the different activities. This is a routine that we follow everyday during our math time! Soon we will be integrating Chromebooks and iPads into our math and literacy time. We first have to learn how to use them in kindergarten.

Child Conversation Starter: What was your favorite part of today? What story did Miss Trieb read to you today?

Learning About New Class Materials

Today we learned about pattern blocks, a tool we use quite a bit in Math. Ask your child today what they made with their pattern blocks!

Welcome to Kindergarten in Room 4!

Welcome to Kindergarten UMS Families! This is where I will be posting important information, activities we do in the classroom, and upcoming events!

I am very excited to meet all of you! I hope your student recently received a letter from me in the mail to let them (and you!) know that I am going to be their teacher. If you did not receive anything about placement, please reach out to Susan Phillips, our school's administrative assistant (264-5959). There might be additional paperwork you need to submit. The letter asks you to complete a survey online so I can get to know your child a bit better before kindergarten begins. This will be sent to your e-mail.

I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, August 27th at 9:30 here in Room 4 for Kindergarten Orientation. We will go over everything about kindergarten at this time! Until then, if you need to contact me, please e-mail me at I check my e-mail periodically throughout the summer.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, see you soon!

We had an amazing day today! Not only was it sunny and beautiful, filled with outdoor play, but we also got to get our Field Day tee shirts ready AND go to the Village Scoop!
